If you don’t know this serie yet, it’s basically about David Duchovny having loads of sex and driving a Porsche.
Those are two good reasons I should hate it, but no, it’s cool. Watch it.
Conundrum: (courtesy of Merriam-Webster dictionary)
1: a riddle whose answer is or involves a pun
2 a: a question or problem having only a conjectural answer b: an intricate and difficult problem
I like this word, that’s the kind of word that’s supposed to make you look smart.
Ok, I’ve been here like… a year and a half. I’ve been hearing people talking about The Office on a regular basis, saying it was brilliant. I’m following a lot of TV series, so I’ve been meaning to see it for months but it got delayed… Some days ago, I read a blog post by Damien Mulley with a video showing John O’Donoghue trying to get some respect from different Dail (accent missing, need to get those on the powerbook) deputies (that’s what I understood). Nothing really special, I felt like I’d seen such scenes in the french embassy so many times… Anyway, I followed a link in the comments which in turn lead to another comment saying “John O’Donoghue is the David Brent of the Dail”.
Who’s that David Brent. Google search lead to Wikipedia. Apparently he’s the main character of the english version of The Office. Ok, that’s enough. I’ve had those DVDs for such a long time, now is the time. So I’ve spent my whole saturday (well, a good part of it) watching The Office and I have to say it’s brilliant alright.
So, if you haven’t seen it yet, go get the DVDs, there’s no chance you’ll be disappointed. I’ve yet to watch the US version with Steve Carrell (and maybe the french one) cause everybody’s saying it’s crap and I want to make my own opinion about it.
Edit: I’m completely in love with Dawn. So Lucy Davis, I know you’re married but if you read this, and consider coming to Dublin, send me an email (and don’t look at the previous post). Btw, I’m adding Dawn to my list of favorite names, next to Caitlin and Ciara.
... or if you know me and weren’t sure, I’m an idiot.
No need to explain or give reasons, but on a positive note, I’m working on this, and it’s getting better already.
Bit late to write about this but better late than never eh?
So I’ve been pretty much drunk all weekend but between two pints I managed to do some things, I think. As the weather was particularly pleasant on saturday (early in the day), I went to Killiney/Dalkey for a walk on the beach and an early lunch in Finnegan’s. I enjoyed free wireless connection on my new Nokia N770 and sent a message on MSN to a friend, just cause I could. Pretty lame eh? I don’t mind. Went to 92 for the night and met a couple of friends there. Pretty cool night, which ended in Goatstown at one my friends’ friend’s home, around 5am.
Been sleeping a bit on sunday, went for food shopping. Had a pizza then went to Bolands around 5pm. Met a friend there who was watching the Liverpool/Manchester game (was it Liverpool? can’t remember to be honest). We moved to Galloping Green around… I don’t know, maybe 8pm or something and stayed there until midnight. Going back to his gaf, we stopped for a pint at some pub whose name I forgot, somewhere near Dean’s Grange. I think we watched a Muey Thai related movie with his mates afterwards then I went back home walking. At some point, my nose decided it should bleed, so I’ve been walking 25 minutes with my hands covered in blood. Sweet. Back to bed.
Ok, it’s monday, I’ve been driking all weekend, I’m off the booze until next friday. Or maybe I’ll get one tonight, just to end the weekend properly. Such a bad idea… Met a some friends in Bolands and drank 5 pints in the end…. Great weekend, can’t wait for the next one!
On a different matter, I’ve seen Transformers and 300 lately, those are two really nice movies (if you haven’t seen them already). I’ve also had some really nice food. I’m 25 and I feel like I should cook a bit more often (if only to learn how to cook properly), so I prepared a tartiflette (which you can see here) and spaghetti alla carbonara. Should definitely eat such food more often…
Ok, so I was a bit depressed on monday and I went straight to the pub after work, to clear my mind with a couple of drinks.
I don’t think I spent so much time watching TV since I left France, which in itself is a good thing. There were news then this documentary about the football game between Ireland (ROI) and England in Lansdowne Road on the 15th of February 1995. Great documentary, most of the interviewees were speaking Irish, which was unexpected but cool.
Anyway, commercial break, there come some images of people in a tower, then the screen reads “9/11, the day the world changed”. WTF! The world didn’t change for me on that day. Maybe it did for a lot of people in the US, but not for me and probably not for most people in the EU (or outside US I should say).
What has changed lately is the whole passport with RFID thing, the new rules at the airport. If you haven’t been in an airplane lately, it sounds like that: “Yeah, you can take your toothpaste in a plastic bag we’ll give you, but omg wtf is that thing? deodorant? Is that more than 100ml? Yes? OMGLOLWTF you can’t take that with you in the cabin, who knows what’s in there? Yeah, you can buy some at the duty free, and don’t miss our promotions on Whiskey bottles.”
Some weeks ago, I’ve been refused to take some dumbbell weights in the cabin. Ok, that may seem a bit weird, but I didn’t want to pay for luggage, so I decided to take them with me in the cabin (ryanair policy: “we’ll charge you 12 euros if you need to have luggage”). Security check told me that I couldn’t take them with me as they could be used like a weapon. Yeah right, those 2kgs weapons I was trying to smuggle were no good, but nobody cared about that 4kgs laptop. Morons.
My life didn’t change because of 9/11, it changed because of stupid morons in the US administration.
Ok this one is an easy one.
It’s been raining like piss almost non-stop for the past few weeks. This is getting really frustrating. I’m trying really hard to find occupations to keep me (mind and body) busy.
I’ve signed up for a gym club (after a long period without doing any intense physical exercise) as I may have already written on this blog. Going there three to four times a week has been a real challenge so far (doing 40 minutes cardio then quite a few resistance exercices everytime) but I’m usually fucked when I come back, so I’ve reduced substancially the time I spend in pubs (which can be considered a good or a bad thing). Today was pretty busy, which means even more gorgeous girls (that helps forgetting about the weather too).
Went to Tesco to buy a bottle of Sauternes to drink with the foie gras I brought back from France last week. Flatmate wasn’t in the mood of eating such food tonight so it’s postponed, but I had a piece nonetheless. I‘ve been thinking about dinner all day, there was no way I’d just forget about it.
That was a really tiring yet really cool weekend. I’m not going to write everything about it cause nobody will read it, but here’s a summary.
Headlines: loads of new mates, first game at croker, met former Miss Ireland Aoife Cogan
Also I had limited physical contact with a czech girl on friday night. This all “stay-away-from-computers-during-the-weekend” technique has proven to be quite effective so far, socially I mean, cause it doesn’t help getting things done in FreeBSD.
I’ve started playing football in Bushy Park with BT again. Weather was lovely (but rain is already back). I don’t think there’s anything better than a hot shower after physical exercise. Actually, sauna or hammam would be better.
When I came to Ireland, I had two ideas in mind: start playing golf and sign up for a fitness club. While I’ve played golf (in pitch and putt) on a regular basis, I still haven’t signed up in a gym club. My flatmate joined Westwood a couple days ago so that gives me a good reason to do the same. The thing is, it’s 70 quid per month. Do the math, it’s around 850 quid a year (and you have to pay an extra 150 quid joining fee). There’s also Total fitness not too far from my place, which is much cheaper (somebody told me it was around 50-75 quid to join, then 55 quid per month). Still have to think about it, guess I could pay both a visit.
Well, weather has been quite good for the past three weeks but it seems a special someone got angry when I left Ireland for France and decided rain should come again. And no, I’m not egocentric.
So James, one of my co-workers told me he was going to Rathmichael (IIRC) to play golf (pitch and putt) with a few friends yesterday afternoon (after work). I have been a couple times to Leopardstown driving range cause it’s as far as five minutes driving from my apartment but I haven’t really played golf in a while, so I figured it could be a good idea to go there and meet new people. We arrived a bit late, around 6:30pm I think while we were supposed to arrive at 6pm. We stopped after nine holes and the result was pretty lame: 17 over par. This is a Par 3 course. Do the math, that means the average is 5. Guess I should play a bit more often, or maybe just stop completely.
Anyway, not sure why I chose this title cause I’m talking about golf really (not about the weather), but it’s been raining during the whole time we were playing. Admittedly, that was a light rain, but still. And there was wind too. I think I got accustomed to rain and wind but I’ve been in Paris for the week-end and it was sunny like hell, with temperature over 25 degrees. In both case I’ve been wet, either because of sweat or rain.
PS: Yeah, ranting again, but I’m french and french people rant. A lot. Get over it.
